Dating dsa numbers

The SA58, while weighing roughly the same as an M1A, does not balance as well as the M1A because the long, steel gas piston is above the barrel. I shot my bud's and that thing was really accurate.Just my

As someone who has all 3 rifles, M1a, FAL, and Hk91 they all have advantages and are fun to shoot. The ones to buy are the older "DS" rifles, the receivers were actually forged and made by LMT for DSA.

As I see it, you should have at least one each of the "main battle rifles"!

JWB It is inevitable that the old "FAL-vs-M14-vs-HK91-vs...whatever" comes up in this kind of thread. The sights are not target sights but I like the sight picture through them better than an m1a.

The FAL is an excellent battle rifle and if you get an "original", like a factory Argentine or Belgian, or even a good kit as I mentioned above, it will serve you well.

It is easily scoped if you use DSA's mount or the ARMS mount.

.02 It is inevitable that the old "FAL-vs-M14-vs-HK91-vs...whatever" comes up in this kind of thread. The DSA STG 58 rifles made during the AWB ban are the ones to pick up.They are made from Steyr STG58 rifle parts kits and contain forged not MIM parts.IMBEl and Argentine receivers are forged, later Belgian Type III are cast, as are also Coonan, but all are top quality.

The only thing I really like better on the Mia is the easy access to the bolt and chamber in case so a malfunction, but I,ve never had one with factory or surplus ammo, only hand loads from sizing issues.JWB I don't want to start the PTR91 vs FAL debate but the thing about the PTR91 is the brass is beat to hell, and there are a lot of reports of those rifles not liking tar sealed nato ammo. I think the cream of the crop dsa rifles were made during the ban and have a soldered on flash hider with 8 ports in it.Think of the similarity with the "pre-ban" SAI M1A, below S/N 96,000 or so.I would say the consensus of the experts over there is that a quality Argentine, IMBEL or STG-58-on-IMBEL builds are preferred. I have both factory Argentine and a STG-58-on-IMBEL FALs and have had no issues over several years. The SA58/FAL has inferior sights, the rear sight has left/right slop. That combined with the short, stubby round front sight post does not give a very good sight picture...certainly not like the thin, sharp, square front sight of the M1A. I really like the HK style sights (people either love/hate them).
