I am using Template Field’s Item Template and Edit Item Template for providing read only and editing interface of the same column in the Grid View.By Default, Grid View control displays Item Template which directly shows the Product Name and Unit Price columns but when user clicks Edit button Grid View automatically switches to Edit Item Template and display the control available inside Edit Item Template for user editing.By using the Grid View Row object we can find the reference of any control in the row in which user is editing the data.

To do this we first need to obtain the reference of the current row by using its index no as shown in the first line below.

If you are using command buttons, then do not use Auto Generate Edit Button.

The visitors to a web site can typically be divided into two groups: the users and the administrators.

I am using a SQLData Source to populate my gridview in ASP. When I hit Edit, the textboxes appear and I am able to edit my values. I am using a SQLData Source to populate my gridview in ASP. In the Row Editing function, the edit textboxes appear and I can get the "old" values Then the page renders, I edit the textboxes and hit Update.

When I hit Update, the changes are not saved, and there is no error message. When I hit Update, the changes are not saved, and there is no error message. Then the page posts back, the text boxes go back to being labels and the new values are lost, and the Row Updating code never fires. Yes, I did put the breakpoint at the Row Updating line (and not in the function).

  1. OnRowDeleting - can call registered event handlers" I couldnt figure out how to continue this thread, but the issues in it are related so i'm including it as a reference. In my custom gridView control I cannot raise the RowUpdated event. I have tried to add an event handler to the RowUpdated event of my custom control but it is.

  2. Occurs during Update after a command is executed against the data source. The attempt to update is made, so the event fires.

  3. I'm trying to use a WebDataGrid where the columns are being generated dynamically. So, autogenerate columns is set to true. I have the grid placed in an update panel, but I am not seeing server side code being invoked at all. Do you see something wrong in this markup? I am sure I am doing something.

  4. This is a continuation from "overriding GridView. OnRowDeleting - can call registered event handlers" I couldnt figure out how to continue this thread.

  5. I am using a SQLDataSource to populate my gridview in 2.0. When I hit Edit, the textboxes appear and I am able to edit my values. When I hit Update, the changes are not saved, and there is no error message. I put a breakpoint on the RowUpdating event handler and found that the event is not fired.
